Nowadays (2024), an affordable car is rare, but Nissan’s doing its part to keep cheap and cheerful alive. The 2020 model year marked the premiere of a redesigned Nissan Versa, putting a dent in the comment, “There are no good used cars anymore.” The 2020 Versa received a revised cabin, crisp styling, remarkable driver-assistance attributes, and a potent engine. It’s available in three trim levels:

  • S
  • SV
  • SR

The 2020 Versa’s powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder powertrain, producing 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque – 12 and seven percent boosts compared to previous years. The entry-level S trim can be outfitted with either a five-speed manual or Xtronic continuously variable transmission, but the latter comes standard on the higher SV and SR trim levels.

Is the Nissan Versa 2020 a Good Car?

Exterior:

When the automaker got to work devising a brand-new Versa, it began from a dimensional perspective. Notably, the 2020 Versa is 1.8 inches wider, 1.6 inches longer, and over two inches lower than the 2019 model. Designers also minimized the space between the fenders and the wheels. That said, the sedan has two-tone 17-inch wheels encased in all-season tires on the top-tier SR trim.

Their tinkering led to a small car that doesn’t appear as if it’s a larger vehicle whose growth was unexpectedly dwarfed, an adversity that some other introductory-level sedans have coped with in years past. On the contrary, the Nissan Versa is well-proportioned with pleasing details

The rest of the car’s cosmetic alterations lend it a resemblance to its larger counterparts. For example, there’s a downsized iteration of Nissan’s recognizable V-motion grille on the front fascia. The rear fascia sports a pair of boomerang-like tail lights that flank the trunk, providing 14.3 cubic feet of cargo room.

Interior:

While the 2020 Versa favors function over form, the cabin’s far from dreary. Drivers are likely to appreciate Nissan’s supportive seats combined with their flexible configurations. The SR trim boasts manually adjustable front seats – six ways for the driver and four ways for the front passenger.

The interior houses a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen that’s Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible with pragmatic knobs. The tachometer on the left exhibits the revs and driving range. Further comforts include:

  • Heated front seats
  • Siri Eyes Free
  • Hands-Free Text Messaging Assistant

All 2020 Versa automobiles provide Vehicle Dynamic Control and traction control. Nissan’s Easy Fill Tire Alert System honks the horn when the owner reaches a tire’s proper air pressure, ensuring the vehicle’s strong connection to the road. Versa SV and SR trims have Safety Shield 360, appointed with the following:

  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • High Beam Assist
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Blind Spot Warning
