Nissan recently presented The Arc, a business plan split between model years 2024 through 2026 and long-term actions to be carried out through 2030. During the 2024 model year, the Japanese automaker has confirmed four debuts, including the newly unveiled Nissan Kicks and Infiniti QX80. The other two come in the form of the brand-new Murano and Armada. The vehicles are due by the end of the year (2024), meaning they should arrive as 2025 models in the United States. For reference, the Armada was last redesigned in 2017, while the current Murano dates back to 2015.
What a New Armada Entails
The Armada is Nissan’s flagship, full-size, body-on-frame, three-row SUV. The truck-based vehicle lives on with a third generation to rival automobiles such as the Toyota Sequoia. Indeed, Nissan reportedly previewed the new Armada for its dealers, and customers could meet the model soon. Better known as Patrol in most parts of the world, the body-on-frame Armada is joined at the hip to the QX80.
As such, the QX80 and Armada are traditionally extremely similar beneath the skin, with the differences coming down to aesthetic touches and premium features. In contrast, the 2025 Nissan Armada is expected to further emulate the Infiniti QX80 with better materials, design, and fit and finish for the interior. Prospective customers should also look forward to a dual-screen layout comprising the infotainment system and instrument cluster, as well as Google Built-In and a head-up display. In the QX80 SUV’s case, the head-up display is an optional extra.
Regarding the powertrain setup, the redesigned Armada will swap out its 5.6-liter V-8 engine for a smaller turbocharged motor for the third-generation model. Automotive News initially reported that the manufacturer will replace the previous mill with a more efficient and potent twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that bumps the Armada up to 450 ponies, 50 horsepower more than what the current Armada vehicle’s 5.6-liter V-8 musters. That engine will be paired with a new nine-speed automatic transmission and generate 516 pound-feet of torque. Unsurprisingly, the same engine has also been confirmed for its luxury twin, the 2025 Infiniti QX80.
What a New Murano Entails
The Murano is a unibody SUV, and chances are that Nissan will update the platform underpinning the automobile for the fourth-generation model. Of note, sources suggest that the current model’s front-wheel-drive system will remain standard for 2025. The Murano is also expected to downsize to a turbo-four engine from the current V-6. Moreover, the Nissan Pathfinder and the Nissan Murano are mechanically similar, so if the Pathfinder SUV’s recent redesign is any indication, the brand will opt for a nine-speed automatic transmission instead of the outgoing Murano vehicle’s continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Similar to the Armada, the Murano will reportedly move upmarket, building on the midsize SUV’s strengths. For example, the Murano has typically been commended for its lavish interior, easygoing ride, and segment-competitive fuel economy.
In related news, the Yokohama-based automaker announced its plan to present seven new vehicles in North America over the next three years, including plug-in hybrids, electric vehicles, and even series hybrid vehicles. Not only that, Nissan aims to update approximately 80 percent of its existing lineup in the United States in the years ahead.
