The compact SUV segment is competitive, so it’s praiseworthy that the Rogue is Nissan’s most highly favored vehicle in its American lineup. While some compact crossovers in the class possess athletic handling, the 2024 Nissan Rogue emphasizes comfort. Compared to contenders, the Rogue provides a comfortable, effortless ride. Indeed, commuters will likely appreciate the automobile’s ride quality.
2024 Nissan Rogue’s Performance
A refined 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder powertrain with ingenious variable compression ratios is housed under the hood of the 2024 Nissan Rogue. This results in output figures that exceed the norm. Compact SUVs typically accelerate below the 200 mark, while the Rogue delivers 201 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque.
To that end, its performance specifications equal those of the Jeep Compass and are only considerably surpassed by the Dodge Hornet vehicle’s 268 horsepower. All other compact competitors produce noticeably less. For context, the Rogue’s capability holds a distinct edge over most rivals.
Moreover, the engine is paired with Nissan’s most recent generation of the Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The CVT is designed to increase acceleration feel and lower fuel consumption. As mentioned, this engine features unique variable compression ratios courtesy of its ability to automatically alter the compression ratio for enhanced power turnout or for higher fuel efficiency, depending on the driver’s preference.
Is a 2024 Nissan Rogue Good on Gas Mileage?
The Rogue’s gas mileage is outstanding when considering the small three-cylinder engine’s speed. Additionally, the vehicle incorporates a standard Idle Stop-Start feature, turning off the engine and automatically restarting it when it comes to a complete stop, like at a red light. Due to the manufacturer’s transmission selection, the Rogue automobile’s fuel economy is closer to that of a subcompact SUV than a compact one.
As such, it garners EPA-rated fuel economy estimates of 30 miles per gallon in the city, 37 miles per gallon on the highway, and 33 miles per gallon combined on entry-level trims equipped with front-wheel drive. In turn, all-wheel drive and upper trims’ larger wheels consume a bit more fuel, but even the least fuel-efficient trim–the all-wheel-drive Platinum–receives a superb 28 miles per gallon city, 34 miles per gallon highway, and 31 miles per gallon combined. These are some of the most outstanding fuel efficiency numbers for any compact SUV on sale aside from electrified options available with hybrid power plants.
While the 2024 Nissan Rogue boasts splendid fuel economy figures, its powertrain is evidently designed for efficient gas mileage and not performance. Still, the dip in acceleration is a relatively negligible gripe because the brand has done well in other areas of the driving experience. For example, the front-wheel drive is ideal for limited dirt-road and beach driving.
