2023 Nissan Rogue: Winner of Compact SUV Challenge

The 2023 Cars.com Compact SUV Challenge has bestowed the title of winner upon the 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum. Over the span of a week, the editors at Cars.com evaluated six popular compact SUVs, scrutinizing various factors including fuel efficiency, handling, value for money, driver-assist and safety features, as well as car seat installation convenience, among other aspects.

In this Challenge, three judges assigned scores to 11 subjective and six objective categories, culminating in a total of 17 categories and 855 potential points. 

Demonstrating exceptional versatility, the well-rounded compact SUV outperformed its counterparts in the comprehensive weeklong comparison test. Interestingly, this marks the Nissan Rogue’s second consecutive triumph, as it also clinched victory in the 2021 Cars.com Compact SUV Challenge. The 2023 Nissan Rogue emerges as a practical companion for family-oriented lifestyles, complemented by a wealth of beneficial technology. Noteworthy for its striking design and impressive value, it stands as a compelling choice for crossover enthusiasts.

Style

Within its segment, the Rogue’s refined aesthetics are warmly embraced. Its chiseled and squared-off front end imparts a robust and subtly rugged allure. A sculpted hood that ascends above the wheel wells to converge with the windshield adds a tasteful accent, framing the Rogue’s profile elegantly. The outward-extending rear fenders confer a touch of assertiveness to the vehicle’s demeanor, while the rear lights impart depth and visual dynamism to the liftgate. In contrast to its rather plain-designed competitors, the Nissan Rogue strikes an appealing equilibrium between attractiveness and an understated presence, avoiding excessive efforts to be overly distinctive.

Powertrain Options

In contrast to several of its competitors that offer an array of powertrain choices, Nissan has opted for simplicity by offering a single engine and transmission pairing. Across the board, every 2023 Nissan Rogue is equipped with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, featuring a variable compression turbocharged system that produces 201 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque. The innovative variable compression system is capable of autonomously adapting the compression ratio of the turbocharger, responding to the context at hand and optimizing power output or efficiency accordingly.

Interior

Enhancing the Rogue’s smooth ride is a spacious and comfortable cabin that’s also user-friendly. Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats are tailored for road trips, combining a relaxed feel with supportive contours. In the Platinum trim, these seats boast a quilted design, are heated, and enveloped in semi-aniline leather. Additional noteworthy creature comforts encompass dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, second-row sunshades, a Bose audio system, and the option for tri-zone climate control and heated rear seats.
